October is Physical Therapy Month!
Physical Therapy is so much more than walking and exercise.
There are many niche areas that PTs can practice like: school based PT, wound
care, and animal treatment.
Please see the attached link for some statistics surrounding
PT.
PTs must graduate from an accredited program with a
doctorate degree and pass a medical board examination to receive a license to
practice. This license must be renewed every 2 years.
Did you know that PTs in the school system can provide brain
break ideas, indoor recess ideas, or help incorporate gross motor movements
into a lesson plan? Being a PT in the school system requires creativity, team
work, and lots of energy!
I became a PT because I love to help people, love exercise,
and am a huge science fan! I initially thought that I wanted to be a teacher
but changed majors in college. In reality, PTs are teachers. We teach people
how to move, prevent injury, and how to improve their daily function from a
gross motor standpoint.
I truly love what I do and hope to practice for a long,
long time!
Happy PT Month!
